Being Single

October 29, 2012

There are a lot of people who are confused between being single and being in a relationship. The reason is that both have their set of advantages and disadvantages. Some people are single because they don’t find a partner, while there are some people who are single by choice. There are a lot of things which play a role on the character and preferences of a person, such as the process in which they were brought up and the outlook they have towards life, and their ambitions as well. These also have a bearing on whether the persons want to remain in a relationship or not.

The people who are single do not truly realize that they want to remain single until they are in a relationship and they realize what they want. There are a few positives and negatives about being single.

The negatives about being single are all the positives of being in a relationship. Being in a relationship actually introduces you to a lot of emotions that you didn’t experience before. It gives you a lot of joy and happiness and brings a lot of excitement to your life. You have one person in your life who you can always fall back upon. You can talk to that person at any time of the day, even in the middle of the night. You can share jokes, share secrets, and spend romantic moments together. When you are single, it’s all about being at peace with yourself and happy with yourself as well. Of course, you may have friends, but there is nobody who has that kind of status in your life. You have to establish a sort of an equilibrium between you and your surroundings, so that you’re not lonely. On the other hand, you must actually derive joy from your status.

Being single, on the other hand, makes you more focused. A relationship is a big distraction in many people’s lives. They just can’t seem to get enough of their partner and want to spend all the time together. When they are not together, they think about each other. In such a circumstance, the career takes a backseat. You are unable to focus on your academics or your career, and this leads to lesser productivity. When you are single, you are free from such distractions and can concentrate single mindedly on what you want, and go on to achieve it. We’re not saying that being in a relationship will automatically translate to the fact of being unsuccessful, we’re just saying that there are many people who are not organized enough to sort out their priorities and give adequate time to both things.

Being single also allows you to do what you want. When you’re in a relationship, you might have had your partner complaining if you drink, if you flirt a bit with other people of the opposite sex. When you’re single though, you can do whatever you want, as much as you want to. There are though, some people who like this restriction on them. Hence, as we said before, a lot depends on your own outlook.
