I love these lists Lori – it’s too easy to fall into the crazy reasons and not remember that you need the reasons from the second list in order for the relationship to stay thriving!
I’ve looked at your lists from two perspectives – the first as a mother with a son who is getting married in October, and the second as a wife who has been married more than 25 years.
For my son and his fiance, I imagine the reasons they’re getting married are found on both lists. (Hopefully more from the second list.)
As a wife of 25+ years, the second list made me realize the last 25 years have completely confirmed every reason to get married, and are concrete reasons to stay married for the next 25 years.
Great insight – and a super “check-up” list for those of us who’re already married!
Know a couple people that got married for crazy reason number 2, problem is people don’t stay hot forever.
One of the craziest reasons to get married is for one person to gain citizenship to a country. It happens quite often, too.
I know of at least one couple that did this, and they got sprung for it. Also, I was asked by a woman to marry her so she could remain in Australia. She offered to pay me quite a bit of money, too!
I blog on an Architecture Social Network and it seems that a lot of my members have trouble with the relationship/marriage thing since their profession demands so much of their time and attention. I would venture to say some of them get married to other Archtiects just because they’re there.
