And They Lived Happily Ever After

Fairy tales and true love’s kiss…romance and happily ever after…

For most of us, just hearing these things is probably enough to get some people gagging. But after I was watching the movie Enchanted tonight, I started thinking a little more about fairy tale love stories and living happily ever after and their place in “real world”.

The typical fairly tale consists of one Princess and one Prince madly in love, and some sort of evil villain, usually a stepmother, who plots to tear them apart in fear that they will no longer be eligible for the kingdom.

The movie Enchanted of course is no exception to this rule of course – the only difference in this one is the Princess was banished to the “real world” by the evil step mother, where she’s faced with all sorts of strange things. Things like anger, people who fall out of love, and even indoor plumbing.

While I was watching this movie, I thought about how most of us think “happily ever after” is so impossible to obtain. It’s an elusive concept, most of us thinking we may never meet our Princess or Prince charming, let alone be blissfully happy about it every day for the rest of our lives. We in the “real world” think of course that fairly tales don’t exist.

And yet, I don’t think it’s impossible for fairy tales to exist in the real world either. There is some grain of truth to most fairy tales – the Prince and Princess always have some sort of conflict to overcome such as monsters, evil step mothers, and beyond. We have these same things in our life – except here in the “real world” we call them selfishness, anger, and stress.

So, even if you do not watch this Disney movie, you probably should brush up on a fairy tale or two. Be inspired for a little fairy style romance. Flowers, singing, dancing, and maybe even a little magic are in order!

Even Princes and Princesses have obstacles to overcome before they get to living happily ever after, so don’t give up on YOUR fairy tale ending.

  1. I have seen that movie already. The princess and prince have been to a real world. And they find true love.In this material world, you know, it’s hard to make people believe a fairy tale again. But I do think that the true love exists.

  2. Hi Chelle! We loved Enchanted. In fact, we now own it on DVD. My 3 year old loves it too. Disney hit the nail on the head there. As for life … for me it’s all about vision and course correction. It aint over ’til it’s over so why not make the journey pleasant :) Great post.

  3. indeed. sometimes it really does help to let go of the pessimism and cynicism, and just try to make things work out as best as you can. :)

  4. Yeah, we don’t live in a fairy tale world at all. This is a fact. A very small percentage of people find that person that just sweep them off their glass slippers. But I say if you keep rational standards and be patient, you might just find someone who makes you happy and treats you RIGHT. :>

  5. Despite we live in a very busy and hectic life, I still love to believe in enchanted life. I want to feel even once in my life to have my knight in shining armor that will save me. That’s why I like this film so much! :)

  7. i liked enchanted. thought it was a great idea for a movie. amy adams is becoming a bonafide star. anyway, yeah you’re right about fairytales. we need to believe them if we want to be happy. i guess it’s all about staying young in mind. It’s easy to become jaded or cynical about the real world, but every once in a while, we need to draw inspiration from fairytale like stuff. If you think about it, true love, is kind of like a fairytale. ;)

  8. Its too bad that we can’t always just find that right person. Its too bad.

  9. I believe its all about finding the right person. We all get cynical sometimes and feel how the status and money are essentials to happy life. But when you stumble on the right path, the perception changes. It is possible and it does happen.

  10. I believe in true love as much as the next person, but I’ve been married for a while now, and it does take work and commitment. I know my wife and I will live and stay together forever, but that doesn’t mean we don’t have problems that come up. The key is to remember that you have to stick together and not think like so many that your spouse is the problem. The real problem is the world around us.
