Dandelions to most people are considered to be weeds. Anyone who meticulously cares for their lawn hates to see dandelions sprouting all over the place. They also hate to see them in their neighbor’s lawn since they have a habit of spreading rather quickly.
I on the otherhand, do not see dandelions as a weed or a nuisance. In fact, I’m quite glad they exist.
Dandelions are here because little kids LOVE picking flowers for their mother. Take a walk in a garden with any kid under the age of 6 and they are going to want to touch the flowers and pick them.
Naturally, the people who own these gardens, and put hours of effort into planting them and growing them, do not want the flowers to be picked, and certainly not by a child who will mercilessly tear the plant to shreds.
Here is where the dandelion comes in handy.
See those little yellow flowers? Pick those ones honey, they’re my favorite!
Garden saved, child happy, and mom feels like she’s pretty smart.

What a nice way of looking at it - Kids feel so pleased as well when they give them to you.
Great story
Robert Fulghum, famous positive fellow and best selling author, said that dandelions gave you something no other plant could give you-a wish. I have always liked the idea of blowing those little seeds onto the winding and making a wish as I did so.

Ah, dandelions. I have always liked them, and don’t think of them as weeds. Thank you for sharing this little sentiment.
What a lovely post - it put a smile on my face. I have to say that I just love the colour of dandelions, too. So bright - makes me think of summer.

That is so true, no after all those years I know what my mom was trying to do ;). I like the new design, anytime you post a bright picture in your post it immediately draws your attention right to it. Simple and un-cluttered makes reading and navigating much easier. Good work.
Nice post! I have never been able to understand why some things are considered flowers and others, just as pretty, are supposed to be weeds. Some people grow dandelions as food. Another example is purslane, valued as food by some and totally disregarded by others. It also has pretty yellow flowers.
