Don’t Like Giving Out Your Phone Number? Try Skype.

If you’re like me at all, you’re probably not very keen on giving people your cell phone or home phone number, especially if you don’t know that person very well. A great service available to work around this is Skype. Skype is perfect for anyone who likes to guard their personal phone numbers, would want to make free phone calls using their computer, or is looking to save on long distance and roaming fees.
The price of your own anonymous number is pretty reasonable. If you subscribe for 3 months, it is only $9 – if you subscribe for 12 months it only costs $30. You can also use the service without a subscription, though it would cost twice as much doing it that way.
Skype also offers free computer to computer calls. Your actual phone number is never revealed to anyone who calls you using Skype. To use this service, all you have to do is create a free account. You will however need a headset for your computer if you don’t already have one.
I personally reccomend the Logitech Premium Stereo Headset with Noise-Canceling Microphone if you are looking for an inexpensive one. I have actually used it for my “poor man’s music studio” when recording music and was amazed at it’s quality for the price. Is it equivalent to Bose Headphones? Of course not. But it’s definitely worth between $6 used and $16 new if you’re on a budget.
The reason I am sharing all of this information with you today is because I am working on creating my very first eBook jam packed with dating safety tips. It will be freely available to read and distribute once I finish it.
I think Skype.com could be an excellent way to further protect yourself online – what do you think?

Good advice and this works with Magic Jack, too, which is also a soft phone. After the nominal cost of the USB plug it runs about $20 a year for unlimited calling with voice mail included. Many VOIP services also offer what I call throw-away numbers so if you give your number to someone and then change your mind, you can change the number for free.
