Today being Saturday, I thought it would be fitting to talk a little bit about cleaning up the clutter, since that’s usually how I spend many Saturdays. It’s also garage sale season, which means thousands of people right now have cleaned up their clutter and are trying to sell it as I write this.
I don’t know why we hang on to the strange things we do. Many of us can call ourselves “pack rats”, including myself. When my husband and I got moved in together, we found ourselves with a lot of duplicate household items - two microwaves, 6 air conditioners, two toasters, two coffee pots, furniture out the wazoo, and about 10 other boxes of things that are still sitting unpacked in our garage!
Needless to say we’ll be haviing our own garage sale in a few weeks as I finish sorting through all the clutter. Some things I’ll be sad to see go - others I will be saying good riddance to and hoping that somebody buys quickly. If we don’t manage to sell everything there’s still always Freecycle.
If you visited my site today or yesterday you’ve probably also noticed that I’m in the process of cleaning up the clutter here as well while I work on designing a new site theme. While the previous theme was nice, it was starting to make me feel dizzy from all of the sidebar clutter and the striped background. This time I’m aiming for simplicity. I’m not sure if what you see right now is what I’ll stay with and of course I’m open to suggestions and recommendations on what this site should look like.
Do you have days you go through things and clean up the clutter? Are you a pack rat like me and holding onto things you don’t really need? It might be a good day to scale back and start simplifying for you, too.
