Unique Date Idea: Photo Quest

April 1, 2008

If you’ve been looking for something fun to do together, grab your camera(s) and head out on a Photograph quest.

A photo quest is a day you spend with the full intention of taking as many pictures of as many interesting, beautiful, and unusual things you can find.

You don’t have to be a professional photographer, need expensive gear, or even have a knack for good photo taking to have fun with this unique date idea. You can use a digital camera or a disposable camera if you prefer good old fashioned film developing.

The first thing to do is plan a destination. Here are some ideas you can use to pick a place near your location for photographs.

  • A bus, subway, or train station
  • National State Parks and Tourist Areas nearby you don’t normally visit
  • Visit as many playgrounds you can to photograph slides, swings, basketball hoops, nature trails, etc.
  • A town 45 minutes away you haven’t visited before
  • Unusual items in your home, yard, car, and neighborhood
  • Various parking lots in a busy commercial area
  • Drive through a rural area taking pictures of farms, fields, and fauna
  • Stroll through the downtown area of a major city to catch pictures of pedestrians, skyscrapers and architecture, signs, pigeons, and unusual trash
  • You can choose to find things that relate to a certain for a theme – pictures of babies, pictures of hearts, pictures of trains, pictures of signs, etc. etc.
  • Another fun thing you can do is get pictures of you together in different places. If you can’t take a good picture of the two of you, try shooting just your feet or hands or your favorite stuffed animals together in different places.

You and your partner will have fun looking for things together to photograph and spending the time together. Take as much time as you can stand together and don’t forget to pack snacks and drinks or take a break for lunch or dinner. You’ll also want to make sure you have a memory card and extra batteries so your photo quest isn’t cut short.

You’ll have even more fun back at home when you upload the pictures to your computer and look at everything you’ve seen over the day. You can use the pictures as is, or try a free photo editing software such as Irfanview to add effects or remove red eye.

You can then send the pictures to a place like Photoworks and have them made into custom gifts, or frame them in a special place in your home. You can also get Photo Prints for just 12¢ at and you can pick the prints up at the store nearest you in about an hour if you don’t want to wait for them to be delivered.

The best part about this date is it is one you will not forget easily and will have plenty of photographs for special projects, gift ideas, and lasting memories.

Happy photo questing!
